Beside many galleries there are art schools here such as the popular Jane Law’s Studio and Gallery, 9 time "Reader’s Choice" Award Winner and widely known for juried shows. Islanders and visitors enjoy 7 annual exhibits of various themes, as well as wildlife carvings, classes and workshops. Twenty two years of the International Miniature Painting Show is only one of the many events that has put this creative place on the map! ~ The beautiful seascape watercolor on the top of these pages was a gift from professional artist, Jeannette Bond, one of the teachers at the Jane Law Studio. A practicing attorney, as well as artist, she does most of her painting at her home, which is a stone’s throw from this enticing beach. Enjoy it! Wow!Think sculpture, stoneware ceramics, raku, glass, weaving, ballet, craft arts, language arts, etc., etc. Its spacious campus, overlooking about 5 miles of shimmering bay waters is filled with year-round activities you’d enjoy reading about. Her own studio, here on the island, is warm, welcoming and the site of classes, slideshows, and fun in the courtyard in summer. Check: http://www.beachbabybeads.com/. ~ Even the art of theatre is abundantly represented here by the Surflight Theatre bringing professional level Broadway shows, dance and concerts to a half-mile wide island six miles out in the Atlantic Ocean! Imagine! In its 56 years of thrilling audiences many of Surflight’s summer stock actors have gone on to shows in NY and to Hollywood movies you’ve seen! And many are now coming from Broadway and LA to make Surflight’s stage all the more exciting! WOW! A two-way street of talent! The attractive, comfortable 450-seat theater welcomes many busloads from all over New Jersey and beyond as well as the countless local fans. Almost year-round there’s excitement here, some of it in the form of Surflight Theatre’s Arts Resource School, offering courses for all ages. Entertainment professionals love Surflight and flock here year-round. Theater, remember....includes many art forms. Check it out! ~ There must be something about this 18-mile strip of narrow land that brings out creativity, because as if Surflight doesn’t provide enough theater, we are lucky enough to have a wonderful, popular community theater. "Our Gang Players", Southern Ocean County’s only community theater troupe was born 30 years ago at the northern tip of this island, under the shadow of the Barnegat Lighthouse, a wonder in itself! Our Gang offers performing opportunities to hundreds of residents of the Island, all of Southern Ocean County and, indeed, much of Southern and Central New Jersey. Not bad for an organization that started in a fire hall using flashlights as spotlights!
